Hello to all

HI everyone i have a 96 xlt explorer with a 4.0 auto and when crusing down the highway at 55 i give it some gas and i can hear a noise for a monent coming from what i think is the tranny like the lockup is messed up or something. Its a shutter just for a sec. or 2 then its fine. It shifts well and does not slip. It just makes a shuttering noise when it downshifts into passing gear?? any ideas folks. Oyea its my first post and nice place!!!

Stepping on the gas can take it out of lockup. If noise is when it is out of lockup, it could be an engine related noise like a heat shield. The transmission spends a lot of time out of lockup so if it was the TC you would see problems elsewhere. Tranny fluid has additives that enable a clutch to grab better. Your problems don't sound like engagement shudder but you should be thinking about transmission maintenance like new fluid.
