thats the one gary. you can check for 12 volts using a test lite. should show 12 on one of the bigger lugs and then on the other while cycling. (if it isnt broke) I dont know what the smell came from. Did it come from inside the cab or under the hood?

Two big terminal bolts and two small terminal bolts on the top of the relay.

Big ones first,

Terminal 1, has a wire on it that should have battery voltage on it at all times.

Terminal 3, has a piece of flat metal that goes over to another terminal with wires on it. This is the glow plug wiring harness which should have battery voltage on it when the plugs are heating.

Small terminals,

Terminal 2, has two wires on it and it should have battery voltage on it when the key is in the run position.

Terminal 4, has a wire on it that goes down to the controller box under the relay.

The terminal numbers are not on the relay but I labeled them that way for future reference.

See with a test light if you have battery voltage on terminal 1 and if you have battery voltage on terminal 2 when the key is on. You can also check terminal 3 for battery voltage and then post the results back here, we will go from there next time.

the power supply post fell right off, got a new relay at Part's Plus
and every thing is back to normal.
