Should I?

I was recently thinking about buying a 1979 ford bronco ranger xlt. It has a 400 in it and I haven't really heard very many good things about the 400.l I am not sure if I should go for it or not, cause I'm currently in school and have a tight budget. If anyone could give me some stats, common problems, or drive train info I would be thankful.

btw the 400 has about 100,000 miles on it and the tranny has about 60,000

THANKS

You can't go wrong with a 79 Bronco, in my opinion. That sounds like low mileage on both the engine and transmission. Either should go to 200K easily. I know of no common problems with the 78/79 Broncs, the drivetrains are basically bulletproof. It'll have a Dana 44 front diff, and a Ford 9" rear diff. Both are very strong. The automatics were the Ford C6, and the 4 sp manuals were usually the NP435. Both are very good transmissions. The transfer case is gear-driven, also very strong.

Check the body for any rust, or accident damage.
