My father in law has a 99 F-150 2x4 extended cab pickup. It has a 4.6L in it. About a month ago the ABS light came on in it. I told him to check the rear speed sensor and the fluid level. He did this and the light is still on. Does anyone else have any other suggestions. He did not replace the sensor but he did clean it. Does anyone know the OHMS reading that the sensor should be reading? I am pretty competent with meters and such and can check this for him if someone can give me the correct readings! TIA!
I omed out all three, can't rember the reading. but between the three the back on was differant so i replaced it. I know the antilocks were not working. after the rplacement the work but the kight is still on. that was about two years ago
ABS and OBD are different codes and can't be pulled at the same time. I pulled the OBD codes and all is clear. Can you reset the ABS light by battery disconnect also?
I dont have the values with me at this time, but will get them sun, or monday at work. I would ohm the rear speed sensor, or what ford calls the RABS sensor. see if you have an open sensor.
So if the reading is lower or higher than specified I am going to need to replace the sensor? Does anyone know the $$$$$ of the sensor and where it can be purchased?
Dave is correct. I believe the normal range is around 2000 -2500 Ohms. Mine read open. Replacement part was $19 at Ford dealership. 5 mins to install.
As mentioned, ABS faults do not write to OBD II so there is nothing to have to reset. They are real-time only in that they exist only as long as the fault condition is occuring. Fix the problem or turn of the engine and the fault is gone.
