More things to worry about. Heres the codes I pulled today...
116-ECT out of self test range
117-ECT grounded
172-Lack of O2 switches, indicates lean
173- Lack of O2 switches, indicates rich
327-EVP circuit below minimum voltage
328-EVP voltage below closed limit
332-EGR valve opening not detected
334-EVP voltage above closed limit
634-MLPS out of self test range
My poor baby!! The oil level is fine, so is the coolant. Oil pressure is fine, not running hot. I replaced the Engine coolant temperature sensor last summer. Where should I start? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
It sounds like there are a few wiring faults in the engine harness. Check the sigrtn wire and make sure that there is a good connection from all the sensors it connects to (there are several) to the computer. Then unplug the harness at the computer (you'll need a 10 mm socket) and check to see if there is continuity to ground, indicating a short. The sigrtn wire should run to two of the sensors that you have codes for: EVP and ECT for sure, possibly O2 sensor, I'm not sure, and possibly the MLPS, which tells the computer where the gear shift lever is. If these were from KOER test, did you push the O/D cancel button when prompted?
They were from the KOEO tests. I will test what you said, the cpu is on the driverside fender isnt it? I just noticed today that the O2 sensor has a ding in the casing, could it not be working right? Thanks for the help.
reread my reply, sorry ,ive been standing in the cold again, with that many codes , id suspect the processor itself as having a problem ,the good thing is that you can take it out and have it tested, good luck, bob
Possibly, but with this many codes, they will probably come right back. It sounds like there is a problem with the Signal Return wire going to pin 46 on the computer. If it is shorting to ground, it can cause all of those codes, I do believe, except for maybe the O2 sensor codes. I would go through the wiring harness and check the wiring to all of the sensors in question. Check for shorts to ground specifically, and continuity of the wires if no short is found. I'd then go through and check all physical connections to be sure they are not corroded and that they are making good contacts. Again, I'd focus some attention on SIGRTN, since it goes to almost every sensor. This will take some time, but electrical troubleshooting takes time, so be patient, and I'm sure you can find the problem. If all the wiring checks out ok, then I would have the computer tested to be sure it is working correctly. Bob is right, they can go bad, although it is very rare.
GET this,I had the same problem on an 89 It was runin funny checked codes it was spittin all kinds of codes like yours ended up the starter outside casing rusted every time I started the truck it would short the electrical I would say it is a short if it was the computer it would give a code PCM internal ground fault good luck
Thanks for all the help. Ill stard cking the sig return wires. I dont know if this fixed anything, but a coffee canister looking thing under my window squirts was rusted appart. But fixed it with only 3 things, an old coffee canister, duct tape and pure skill. I notices it idled better, but thats all so far.
