Truck Options
I'm a new kid on the block and I need some help selecting "new truck" options. I'm after a 2004 "SuperCrew", with the 5.4 engine, the auto tranny, and 5.5 foot box (no 4X4).
For starters what "rear end ratio" should I get ... 3.31, 3.55, 3.73, 3.55 L/S or 3.73 L/S ?? 80% of my driving city .. 20% highway with no towing involved.
How about tires ... P235/70RX17 BSW A/S or LT245?70RX17D BSW A/S
Bring up anything that I'm forgetting.
Thanks in advance ... I'll be back for more info as I get smarter
Edit Note - Why did the word "tires" above turn into a "link"

First off you need to get into the right forum. This is the Superduty/heavyduty forum. Basically for F250's, 350's and up. I'm pretty sure you are thinking about buying a F150 with the 4 full size doors. I don't think there is a forum specifically for the Supercrew so you will have to look under the 2004 F150 to get to the people with the most experience with those trucks.
As for the rear end I would stay away from the 3.31 and go with the 3.55 or 3.73. I would go with the limited slip. Although not the best in the world they are better than nothing especially if you are going with 2wd. It's a little insurance with no negatives. 3.31 may be ok if you absolutly never go off road and will not be running with a truck full of people and luggage/cargo.
I would say the smaller tires wold probably be a little quieter on the highway but the bigger ones would offer more traction off road and of course look better.
Another option to consider is the bed extender. It may be cheaper to get it one aftermarket rather from ford. It's the same thing and instalation is simple with a drill and screwdriver. If you ever need a little more length it adds about 2 feet. Folded up it can keep gas cans from sliding around.
Good luck.
I thought I posted on the "New Truck Buyer" forum ... but guess not. I also have to find the "test" forum to learn the tricks on this site.
Yes, your right ... I'm looking for a F-150 SuperCrew. It sounds like the rear end ratio is between the 3.55 L/S and the 3.73 L/S.
My useage will be 80% city and 20% highway and I'm leaning towards the 3.73 L/S ... can anyone confirm this will be a good choice ???
Thanks again.
