I think you gave yourself some great advice. Step back and take a breather and get a new perspective. It's easy to get boresighted on something and then hang onto it like a dog with an old shoe. Changing the fuel filter is a good idea. I wouldn't drop the exhaust yet, because personnally, I have bad luck with manifold studs (although, if they don't look too rusty....). Other than that, drive it and try to make the CEL come on.
Thanks for the replys guys,
I finally have a few days off from work, so I will change my fuel filter ,(which racerguy mentioned many posts ago), then I'll take a look at what's involved in dropping my exhaust...Good news is the CEL is back on ,so I can get that read 1st before I go off half-cocked...... Will keep you updated this weekend...Today is my Friday,,
If you have a vacuum guage, you can check if the exhaust is plugged by starting the engine, rev to 2000 rpm's and watch guage. If plugged, vacuum drops off and returns to normal when you let off the throttle. Good luck.
I had similar symptoms (at least the initial acceleration problem) in cold weather, and it turned out to be ice in the fuel pump. A can of gas antifreeze solved the problem. Just a cheap suggestion.
The vac guage can be hooked up to any unused port on the intake manifold or install a 3 way tee fitting and hook it up there. Hope this helps. good luck.
Thanks for the offer openclasspro,,,But I have good news.
Trouble has ben solved by replacing the fuel filter....
Codes were:PO122(input to the TPS is low),,
PO171(bank 1 lean fuel system)
PO174(bank 2 lean fuel system)
The 1st time they were read, I wasn't shown the printout, the guy just said you got a bad TPS....This makes more sense now!
Thanks to everyone who responded, especially racerguy who got it right first
