Yea...don't go Vortech - you're not be running your truck at high enough rpm's to really "use" that supercharger. Vortechs are made for engines that want to rev.
Question for you guys for him. Should he go with larger exhaust valves? Intake are fine and for towing he wouldn't want to open the intake side much (loses low-end), but wouldn't he benefit quite a bit by going up a couple sizes on the exhaust valve diameters? Porting on the exhaust side (and some on the intake) as well as larger valves....thats what I'd figure to go for with the stock heads & a supercharger.
Also with the SC, doesn't he need to drop in sturdier valve springs though?
I wouldn't totally rule out a Vortech...you'd be very suprised how fast one of the smaller Vortech compressors can build boost. I have one on my truck, and when I nail it the boost rapidly goes up through 6-7psi and then has a nice steady climb to 11-12psi @ 5100rpms...this was with an 8" crank and 3.70 upper.
On a street application larger valves will help....but, if your on a budget a port job (which you can do yourself) would be more beneficial....especially on the exhaust side. A good set of valve springs is also a good idea to prevent valve float. Trick Flow makes an excellent double spring conversion for Ford iron heads that work well.
I tried to find a Kenne Bell for my application but haven't turned up anything on my search through the internet. I can find Kenne Bell but maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. Anybody got a link?
I have not ruled out aluminum GT 40 heads yet. For that matter I haven't completely ruled out getting a 5.8. Only reason I have trouble with going to the 5.8 is I have two 5.0's I'm going to have to buy a 5.8 and computer. I did have a guy on another post in the small block forum that offered to sell me his upper and lower intake and computer off his 5.8 since he is going to a carbed engine. But I'd still have to find 5.8 long block. Then I've got two 5.0's to get rid of. If I do finally decide to go with the 5.8 I won't be able to buy new heads, I'll just buy the Jasper long block.
Man, my heads hurting! Need a supercharger for my brain so I can think through all this info.
Thanks, I did finally find it. I so dense when it comes to computers. I had search earlier for superchargers, never even crossed my mine to search kenne bell. Well I'll call tomorrow and get a price.

I can buy a Jasper 5.8L for $2333.75 that includeds core charge since I won't have a like for like exchange. Vortech supercharger is going to cost right at $3000. $5000, is what I had set aside. Still need to come up with an intake and computer for 5.8 and exhaust. Of course the exhaust could wait till a later date.
I'm sure the heads on the 5.8 are stock heads since it's just a classI engine. Only differance between there stock 5.8 and class I is the cam. the Class I has a RV type cam for towing. Will these stock heads be ok? Cause if I go this way I'm going to have to stop with the above mentioned items.
Well, after all the talk. Looks like I'm going to go ahead a buy a newer vehicle. I've had a friend call me this morning and a friend of his who owns a new car dealership is offering to sell me a 2002 Expedition XLT 5.4L 4x4 for $12,000. Hard to believe, but so far everything seems OK on the deal. Still sounds way to good to be true.
Thanks for all of your feedback! I appreciate it. Looks like I'll just sale the 91 F150 4x4.
