brazing pipes
I usually use a wire welder to patch up stuff. I have read brazing is easier and better, and looks nicer. I would liketo know can you braze exaust pipes? of the people I talk to half say yep and half say nope the pipes get to hot.
Now I have had a lot of situations where brazing an exaust pipe joint would have been so much easer than using my gassles wire welder, that thing usually pops a hole were I dont want one, where it seems to me, on a tight pipe repair job flowing braze into the joiunt would be GREAT.
will the braze hold up to the exaust pipe temps?
I find all the right answers on this site so I'll give this unknown Q a shot!
I have some sheet metal work to do this spring on my truck, and the wire welder does the job but (for me) its not an easy job, I watched a buddy of mine braze sheet metal body work it looks a lot easier and the results are much better... I am gonna teach myself how to braze this spring and I want to know BEFORE i make the mistake, if the exaust pipes can be brazed also. And what kinda rods are best for this type of aplication. (or does it even matter.... I'm still reading on the subject, so anything you have will help)
when I tack weld these pipes like this they dont leak if a long time but they do start after time, so I was thinking the braze would totally fill any seam tight, unlike just tacking.
also I tack weld hangers in odd places I need em sometimes. not much stress in these type of joints.
Thanks!!
