Does anybody have pics (or a link) with 4 or 5 point harnesses installed in an 80-96 with buckets and factory seat brackets? (Not racing buckets or fixed-mounted fiberglass seats.) I am curious as to where my mounting points would best be, or if anyone has any good tips or tricks. Thanks.
Just be aware that a 5 point harness is not legal for street use (unless DOT approved, and I ain't seen one that is). Really stupid law in my opinion, to be legal you have to wear a lap/shoulder belt combo in addition to a 5 point.
Since you posted this August 03, I figure you've already worked through this, but for anyone considering a 5-point belt system:
5-point seat belt systems REQUIRE a cage-type brace welded to floor behind seat, who's top is even with top/back of seat to run belts over. If you just run shoulder belts up, over seat back, then straight down to floor w/o the brace I'm describing, and you, say, rear-end a car in front of you, the forces, instead of holding you back, will pull you downward, (hyperextending the natural curve of the spine) compressing your back. Broken back in a 30mph fender bender. Bad news.
Learned this last weekend on Spike TV's - Trucks! program.
OTOH, a standard three-point belt won't do much to hold you in your seat in the event of slow-rollover, so if one does a lot of rough off-road, a 5-point belt system's gotta be considered - just do it right, I guess, huh.
