Ever had this done?

Got my PSD back from the dealer today, It was in there for a front crankshaft seal leaking and to be looked at for another problem. I posted one other time about this and was told here on the forum that my problem is either the HPO pump or the IPR valve. What happens is that 1 out of every 10 starts, it take 3 times longer cranking before it will fire. They had the truck for 4 days and would start it every couple of hours, and for them, it started normal. Tried to talk them into putting these componets on as a "trial and error thing" but got a flat "NO"! They said that they could not pull any codes so as far as they were concerned, nothing is wrong. I asked about leaving the code reader hooked up and let me drive it for a few days untill it acts up for me. They said that they had a "flight recorder", yes thats what he called it, that could be hooked up and left untill the truck didn't start to my satisfaction. What do you guys think of this idea? Any of you ever had somthing done like this before? Might add that they told me to wait untill the glow plug indicator light goes out, whether it's hot or cold. I've been kinda lax on this as when it's a warm engine start, turn the key and go..except for that 10th time. I'll try this but I bet it won't cure the problem. I'm about out of warranty so would like to get it fixed. Thanks..sorry for being soooo long winded!

I've heard of the "flight recorder" being used before with some success, so I'd go for it. The hardest problems to diagnose are the ones that are intermittent. The thing never malfunctions when you want it to.
