The clutch on my A/C compressor siezed up and since its 25 degrees here, i just decided to unplug the power to the clutch.. now the truck is running really noisy and loud.
Is having the clutch operational on the compressor that big a deal??
Hey nowbiteme: In many cases the A/C compressor engages when you turn on the defrosters. The reasoning is to keep the seals from drying out during the winter months. Hope this helps. Dog.
the ac compressor clutch seized up on my 89 xlt. i pulled the power plug and it ran fine for a couple days. now its squels, smokes, and something is burning.
i think the pully is not spinning thus the burning rubber of the belt. Is it possible to just remove the clutch and have the pully spin normally?? I cant keep the enigine running long enough to get outside the cab to look or drive it to a mechanic to verify what is and is not spinning/burning..
Take your belt off and spin the belt pulley by hand and it should spin no problem (clutch is not engaged) If the clutch turn's when you turn the pulley the probably siezed together and with bad bearings is causing heavy drag on the engine at idle, and belt slippage!
