The vehicle is difficult to start when the following conditions are present - 45 deegrees or higher outside temp, vehicle is warm and sits for 15-20 minutes. Any shorter or longer no problem starting.
Have replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the MAF as suggested in other threads on this forum, replace the temp sensor used in the start up mode on the manifold. The fuel pump is turning on. This is 4.0 engine.
Could be a fuel leakdown problem. Pressure on the fuel rail should stay above 30# for 30 minutes. A leaking injector, FPR or pump allows pressure to drop then the gas boils. This causes a bubble that is not fully flushed out when the pump turns on for 3 seconds. Try turning the key on for 5 seconds then off without cranking. Repeat this three times to flush out the bubble then try to start. If you have access to a fuel pressure gauge, this would be the best test.
I have a Jeep and the crank sensor went bad. I could drive it around for 30 minutes and it would usually be fine. Shut it off and I wouldn't be able to start it for 15 minutes. Ran wires from the crank sensor into the cab. Switched into the ohn range as soon as I shut it off. Resistance climbed fro 300 ohms to 10K in about 5 seconds. Fifteen minutes later it dropped back to 300 ohms. While the engine was running, the voltage generated by the sensor was enough to break down the oxidation layer. You might have crank sensor problems too.
