Swapping gauges

I'm thinking about fabricating my own instrument cluster. I am looking at getting new gauges, but they are really expensive to buy brand new. They sell all kinds of clusters on Ebay, and I was wondering if it would be possible to buy a random set of gauges from a car/truck (any year), and use them in my 71 f100.

im sure they would work as long as your good at fabricateing plastic and other stuff in the dash yourslef, cuz there isnt any new clusters that will fit right into yours out of a different vehicle thats new. good luck

I'm planning on cutting two pieces of metal, one flat one for the gauges, and another curved one to go along the top. It should be relatively simple compared to the complex plastic one.

if you dont mind spending a little cash and want a clean sharp set get a hold of dakota digital they do custom gauges with a lot of options.

just remember that guages from different vehicles use different sending units also. My buddy put a honda accord dash in his bug and had to experiment with different resistors(I think thats what he used) to get the right combo so they would register properly.
