I have a 1993 F-150 XLT Extended cab. My power window motor is going out and I want to replace it. The window will go down, but will not go up unless assisted by pulling up the glass by hand. I had the door pannel off to check it out and it appeared the motor was mounted by rivits. Any tips on how to replace the motor? Does the window require adjustment after the new motor is installed? Should I get a motor from a junk yard or go new, if new where is the best place to purchase it from? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 93 F-150 and the motor on my passenger side is going out as well. At least I think it's the motor....the teeth on the actual track assembly on the drivers side wore so bad that it would bind up. Wound up replacing both the track and the motor...didn't want to go through all that trouble to only have the motor fail a little while later. It was kind of a pain to do. The rivets your mentioned have to be ground off and replaced with a grade-8 bolt. There's not a lot of room to work in there and as a result I had about a thousand little sheet metal cuts on my hands and forearms. I got my replacement motor at Advance Auto...It was about $50 (minus the core charge) if I recall correctly. I wouldn't reccommend a junkyard unit...like I said, it's kind of a pain to replace and the used unit would already be running on borrowed time. While the lack of space makes it kinda tuff, it's not an impossible job...with a little patience. Good luck!
