Hey all. Does anybody know where I could find a tsb covering the cylinder head problems on the triton engines? I'm having a go around with an aftermarket power train warrenty regarding the spark plug problem. They are calling it "consequential damage ". The service manager at the dealership is positive that one was issued, but cant seem to find it!
Any info would be helpful.
Thanks, Sheldon.
Yes, the back plug on the passenger side blew out at about 65,000 miles. Took it in and was assured that it was a problem with the head and power train warranty (autoshield) would cover it. Was told there had been a technical service bulletin or special service message covering this problem.
The tech at the time spun in a new plug, torqued it down and said " Lets see if this holds".
Lasted about 2500 miles.
Now I'm having it out with the dealership because they say autoshield wont cover it now. Calling it " consequential damage ".
I just about have the service manager nailed down to a commitment to fix it and cover it themselves if autoshield still refuses.
By the way, it's a '99 F 250 Superduty with a V-10.
Was the work done through the FORD dealer??
If so most dealerships have a 12 month 12k warrenty on their work, check on this by asking the service mgr. You need to keep up the pressure in a polite way. As long as they seem to be working to help you stay polite.
Why did the dealership not fix the problem through the AUTOSHIELD company the first time around??
Yes, the work was done at the Ford dealership where I bought the truck. ( pre-owned, 1 yr. lease back ). I asked the service manager why it wasn't fixed as per Ford service, and he said they wanted to try this first.
It never even occured to me that they would have a warranty on the service work . And nobody has mentioned this to me at the dealership.
Seems to me the dealership is your target. Remember they will only answer what you ask them.
First get them to answer the question: Do they (FORD) have a warrenty policy for repair work done by the dealer??
Then remind them the repair they performed was their choice and it failed. They should be obligated to repair due to not properly performing repair work. Keep calm and remain polite. Stick to your claim they improperly repaired the sparkplug hole and are required to fix the damage. Call other dealers and ask about their service policy to compare.
I just found out the warrenty covers the part replaced not the workmanship. I was told it was up to the independent service managers to decide what to do.
Personally, I would get to the service manager and owner for a long talk. Be polite and discuss the options you have with regard to their workmanship and decision to repair. Don't back down and remain calm.
Hey Shel, If you want to review the TSB for your Truck, check out your local Library. Some Libraries have unlimited access to sites like www.ALLDATA.com where you can read any TSB on any car/truck. If you have access to your TSBs, sorry I wasted your time.
I checked out that site and couldn't find the tsb for the V-10, so I checked the 5.4 V-8 and couldn't find the problem either. Anybody know what tsb refers to the problem of blowing out plugs on the 5.4 V-8 ?
The problem is that the dealer "attempted" a repair and it failed. The warranty company is saying "Sorry", I would consider the dealer at fault for improper repair procedures or failing to repair the orginal problem.
Heavey !
I agree but he keeps looking for a TSB !
there is none.
The dealer is at fault!
Most dealers if under 3yr/36,000 will replace the head or if under Ford ESP(only) will replace the head
He's fighting an aftermarket warranty.
I geuss what I'm asking is what specific tsb or ssm covered the problem and outlined the service procedure ( replacing the head ) for the 5.4?
The dealer indicated that an ssm had been dispatched from Ford concerning this,( about the 5.4 ) and I'd like to know how to access it. It seems to me that the two engines should be covered by that ssm, as the problem is the same. ( according to the dealers service tech. )
I was told by the dealer to contact the warrany company directly, and I'd like to have an arguement to present.
