ok, i need some specs guys, i have the 91 f150, i know i have a D44 up front, and a 8.8 in the rear, i have the mazda 5 speed i think, what kind of transfer case do i have?? anthing else i shoudl i know about??
The manual 1356 are more reliable. Just make sure you use ATF and not SAE 50 or higher like some Chiltons say. The Ford Owner's manual says Mercon! The only real weakness is the pump can pull loose and cause it to trash itself. The big thing I don't like is there are few upgrades for them. That is typical for most BW tcases though.
The guts are the same on the electric and manual ones.
if that 7.3 can take it, well then my six will never over toquet it. oh ya, its a lever shifter, no that push button ****, and i have manual locking hubs too!!....hey oh
Save yourself a bunch of money by pulling the transfer case NOW!
The oil pump arm wears though the case and spins around, hits the bottom and shears off. If you catch it before it wears through, it is a simple fix (and cheap), if not, the case will grenade sooner or later.
All you have to do, is weld a short piece of rod across the tip of the oil pump arm, to spread the force across a larger area.
1356 is by far more common at that point than the 1345. It is always a good policy to look at the metal tag and see if it matches to door post label. There is always a chance that someone has changed it at some point unless you bought the rig new.
