Transfer Case
The transfer case went out on my 99 F250 SD Powerstroke. I was told the chain broke. I was also told that I should replace it with a dodge chain. They are suppose to be the same transfer case (New Ideal) but the dodge chain was stronger. Anyone know if this is true. Also how hard is it going to be to replace the chain?

kraig , I, too, have a99 f250 4x4 , with about 60,000 miles on it and i use my xfer case from time to time----but I've never had any trouble with it yet!!!How many miles do you have on your truck and do you use your 4wd alot???----In fact i have not had any trouble with my truck ---at all , hope you get ford to fix it for you-----otherwise that will be an expensive trip to the mechanic!!!!!!!!!!fd

Transfer Case
I have 98,000 on this truck. I use it as a ranch truck. Do use 4X4 quite a bit and also do a lot of heavy trailer pulling. A goose neck 18 Ft. stock trailer and 24 Ft flat bed. I work the sucker pretty hard. I got the transfer case out but haven't broken it open yet. I just put a clutch in it a couple weeks ago. The clutch plate came a part. I don't think Ford has any ideal of the torque the power stroke puts out. I'm too cheep to go to a mechanic. Just wish the truck broke down at home. I took a trip to Portland and the transfer case went out in Cordalane ID. Wife had to hook up the trailer and come and get me. Got another Ford, a 1994 F250 Diesel.
