Talking Decking heads

If you are thinking of decking your heads please do not deck your intake. Take the same amount off the intake side of the heads. This way your intake will work other heads with out any alinment problems. Just somthing to think about.

Cutting the intake face of the heads alters the intake port. It reduces the volume, and it can adversely affect the port's flow characteristics. And if you have any port work done to the heads, cutting the intake face of the head can ruin it.

Intake manifolds are much cheaper than cylinder heads. That's why the convention is to cut material from the manifold when working with decked heads.

Also "M" heads have locating pins in them on the intake face that would be in the way of milling.

But if you think about the cam it is what decides how much air will flow in past the valves, not the length.
