Ok so this might get confusing.. but i will try not to ramble on and on.. here goes:
I have been thinking about this for a while, and just wanted to see what you guys had to offer me in way of your thoughts behind this:
Lift Kit Prices
Now here is my deal - San Antonio, Texas has a mean income of like 20,000 dollars or so, i actually think that is high. Now the cost of living is also a lot cheaper then lets say New York, or Colorado, or California. It is cheap to live here, from houses to gas to whatever. But then again we also get paid less.
In New York lets say, everything is more expensive, but the people there get paid more. A lot more. They have to in order to live.
So now my question. A lift kit, lets say superlift 8" system has an advertised price of 1,243$ anywhere . So does that mean that a lift here down here is actually more expensive for someone than it is for someone living in a richer area of our great nation?
I don't know if that made any since, i hope it did and i hope some of yall have comments. Please don't get me wrong, i am not complaining or anything like that, but it has just always made me wonder while i read ads in the magazines. Oh well - -
Why is this stuff so expensive? It's that damn "product liability" again. I see what you mean about income, BUT I guess we should find out what amount of money New Yorker have left after getting paid more and paying more sales tax, state income tax, more for goods, services, fuel, rent, utilities (and the list goes on.). I bet we have more "disposable" (read F250 money) income than all these fine folks. And then of course the weather sucks up there. We're saving money by not having to spend it on the Snow plow package and the snow plow.
No no don't get me wrong i am not complaining at all.. it was JUST A THOUGHT. trust me i love it down here in Texas See that is what i am asking.. is is it all relative? What i mean by that is: Is 1200 dolalrs down here the same as 1200 dollars in say New York? Yeti where are you????
Oh, I see what you mean. I guess if all prices up there are outrageous, $1200 might get lost in the shuffle as a very "average price" to pay. Parking for a month in NYC was $700 back in 1994 (probably even more now), so what's $1200 for a lift? I see.
Im in Buffalo, down state from NYC, our housing and such is fairly cheap, but we still have all the great taxes of NY.
You got sand down there somwhere?? you can plow it!!
And as far as goods go, before the internet made buying parts cheap and easy, there was mail order, but to buy 4x4 parts from a shop around here, you paid through the nose. There were 3 shops back in 83 that I can remeber.
I remeber trying to find lift parts for my first truck, 77 250 highboy, the store told me it can't be done no one has parts.
I made my own, and ran 42's on it.
We have one 4x4 place still around, and it's a joke, the guy won't even talk to me, cause I don't buy my parts through him.
He doesn't understand, that I can buy the same parts at the same place he does.
Our shop does 4x4 work, Tcases, rear ends, etc, but we don't sell the trinkets. Iv'e always wanted to start something up, but the demand for lifts is very low around here. If I see 4 to 5 trucks with lifts all summer, it's a lot.
Hell, people see me pull up and they think Im some sort of redneck, until I tell them my truck cost more than thier benzy, then they just figure Im am some sort of Azz ole
His "show" truck...the one he promotes his business with is a 89 toyota that he runs 38's on. It's purple and yellow and I can't stand to look at the POS...
Last time I dealt with the guy, was back in 93 I needed one shock for my lifted 93 1/2 ton, I go out to his shop, he tells me he has to order it. Im like dude..there are 2 million f150's out the its one of the most common trucks that people lift...your telling me you dont stock shocks?????
He tells me dont tell him how to run his business, and I know nothing about anything....said to myself....I will be there when you die, or when I put you out of business.
So up to date....last spring, I got my tires..needed them mounted...I swallow my pride, and call this moron up.
Ask him if he mounts 38's he tells me no..I laughed, he says whats so funny..Im like you run a 4x4 shop and you dont even mount tires??? I ask him who does it for him...I need these done now...This was what he said....Im not telling you, you didnt buy the tires from me...I ask do you sell them...he says yup, I say do you got them there?? he says nope, but I can order them, I said guess what...so can I and guess what again...I DID!!!
He called me something and I hung up
So you see what I have to deal with for our "local" 4x4 shop!!
A complete idiot. But he sells the hell out of those pee on this and that stickers!!
So, if I could see a demand for this stuff, I would clean a bay out and be open for business tomorrow, but until it catches on again around here, I will keep doing what I'm doing......
Check this out, I was screwing around, and he actually has a web site:
I love the part about "We install everything we carry in addition to being highly regarded as an authority in the lift & suspension area" I guess that means he will install the stickers if you buy them from him
Just look at all the links to parts he carries.....7 tires
It's funny.. his truck looks as if it came straight from the 1980's . . . and he actually promotes his company with that? Down here it would bankrupt a business!!!!

I love it when people ask that. Then they all ways ask why I did not get a benz like them. I tell them my truck can do everything their benz can do and more.. So why wast the money..
