Stupid NASA

They say that the billion dollar Mars remote controlled robot croaked. I hope everyone is happy with the amount of money we waste to explore a rock on Mars. I can't wait to watch the next one crash on Mars 3 days from now and waste another billion dollars. Going to the Moon was fun and having satellites beam my phone calls around is nice too. Maybe, just maybe, the space station will provide some benefit to the human race years from now.

How many Science experiments beyond the fringes of our atmosphere do we need to do? Going back to the Moon is a stupid idea, and Mars is out of the question. What is wrong with Pres Bush anyway, I think he is smoking Pot with Bill Clinton.

Most normal people realize there is zero to gain by returning to the Moon. It is a dead cold rock. No minerals or oil could ever be economically mined and returned here. Does Bush think we could live there someday?

I wish he would just nuke France and tend to the important matters of state, and stop playing Capt. Kirk.

The latest speech on expanding space exploration was simply a political ploy to capitalize on all the early "Mars" rover frenzy. When it appeared everyone was happy with the rover, why not promise future bigger and better programs. Don't worry about funding it, just tell people what they want to hear. Remember, the election is right around the corner.

A huge waste of money and effort. People were going nuts over the color photos, OOOOOOOOHHH WOW. They could have just showed pictures of the Afghan landscape and gotten the same effect for alot cheaper.

If we can't land a small rover on Mars and make it work, how much will it cost to send man up and bring him back? Are the costs worth it?i don't think so.

Here's a different question, If we can't land a small rover on Mars and make it work, how can we even think of risking a human life?

Someone had to fly a plane first didnt they?
I wonder if we never sent someone to the moon, would we have put satelites up? anything up in space?
Correct me if I am wrong but are there not things floating around up there right now enabling us to sit in our living rooms and get on FTE? Talk on our cell phones etc etc...?
Take risks they might pay off!!!

I think it's called: priorities. Before we send a man to Mars, we should figure out a way to keep terrorists out of our skies first. It's nice to have a dream, but right now, I don't think we can afford it.

There are some factors involved in this expedition we aren't being told. Why so many failures? Is it because of the enviorment? Is it because we are trying to rush into it before we develop the technology? These expeditions cost a lot of money. All we got up there at this point is a bunch of fancy cameras that seem like they were made in china.NASA isn't helping it's cause much by starting a scrapyard in space.Put a monkey in the stupid thing.Let him go four wheelin, take some pictures, grab a rock or two, stick an american flag in the ground, then leave that desolate hole for when we can actually accomplish something up there.Make sure the monkey was born in the U.S.so we can all get a tax deduction on him!

I can't beleive that NASA lost yet another one of their wonderful Space Rovers, or whatever they call them. I think this Mars thing is a BIG waste of OUR money. Anyone know how much that Toy's R Us model was valued at ??? Over $1 Billion no ?

No, Bush thinks HE can live there someday

Read the reports.

http://abcnews.go.com/wire/US/ap20040122_2529.html

Time will tell if it is indeed a hopeless case.

Let's hope the other one works okay.

Also...surprised no one thought that maybe something "up there" got a hold of it.

I would hardly call NASA stupid. Most of the peoples using this very site can't even fix there own damn truck let alone build an extraterrestrial Rover, send it 100 million miles away and find a way to "talk" to it.

Some of us normal people would disagree with you.

An excerpt from this site: http://www.space.com/scienceastronom...m3_000630.html

Researchers and space enthusiasts see helium 3 as the perfect fuel source: extremely potent, nonpolluting, with virtually no radioactive by-product. Proponents claim it’s the fuel of the 21st century. The trouble is, hardly any of it is found on Earth. But there is plenty of it on the moon.

Society is straining to keep pace with energy demands, expected to increase eightfold by 2050 as the world population swells toward 12 billion. The moon just may be the answer.

Scientists estimate there are about 1 million tons of helium 3 on the moon, enough to power the world for thousands of years. The equivalent of a single space shuttle load or roughly 25 tons could supply the entire United States' energy needs for a year, according to Apollo17 astronaut and FTI researcher Harrison Schmitt.
Do a search for helium 3 on the internet and you will see what they are talking about.

So what happens to the moon by removing the helium ?It sounds a little risky to me.Kinda like removing the trees from the rain forrest. We can develop clean energy sources here if we want to get serious about it.Besides,do you want to take the smile off the face of the man in the moon?
