Sounds like the pushrod coming out of your booster needs adjusted. If you pull the master cylinder off and look at the rod you'll see it can be screwed in and out slightly. There is a spec for adjusting it. If I get out to my shed later I'll check it out in the manual. I'm sure someone might beat me to it!

lastchance i don't think anyelse has the spec just laying around but i would be greatful if you could get it. I called a mechanic and he said there was a spec but i don't know what it is. thanks

Found the spec here Matt...now if I can explain it! My manual shows making a "gauge block"...I guess you could make it out of light sheet metal or even out of a manilla folder or something like that. It would be rectangular in shape, 2 15/16 inches wide. (Apparently to measure from the flat surface where the master cylinder bolts on, not the indented area around the push rod). It then shows a 3/4 inch wide slot cut in it that is 0.980 inch to 0.995 inch deep. (Your "gauge block" would end up looking like a big "C"). The 0.980 inch to 0.995 inch is the measurement the push rod would protrude from the flat mounting surface where the master cylinder bolts on. That spec is from a '78 Ford truck shop manual, I'm guessing it would be the same for the '79.
