Alright... had a misfire in what the computer read out said was cylinder #8. Went and changed it out today, pulled the plug as well to check it out. The plug was a little wet, but not bad. Put the new COP on, disconneted the battery to clear the computer and then went for a test drive. It is still running like hell. Rough idle, bad vibration at speed, ect... The check engine light even came back on. I have no idea what to look for or do now and I need my truck for work and I don't like driving it very far with such a bad misfire. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot guys, I would be royally screwed with ya'll.
Had same problem when truck was tuned up (plugs changed). Got home and the whole thing was shaking and rough idle. The engine light came on also. This made me mad. I read the code and it told me misfire on cylinder #3. Pulled the plug and found the idiot who changed the plugs calibrated them all wrong. So I recallibrated them to what the truck said and disconnected battery to reset comp, and ran fine and soomth again. Went next day to the mechanic and told him about his screw up and he said sorry Im not perfect. Will be getting money back. hope this helps
I was getting a HARD code reading on #5 & 8 with 'key-on-engine-off', I found the problem was the connections between the COP and the spring. I removed the rubber boot from the COP and gently twisted and pulled the spring out of the COP. The connector inside the plastic housing was corroded/oxidized, probably caused by moisture and lack of a good tight fitting. I took some emory cloth and a small file and cleaned and sprayed them with a little electric contact cleaner. Next I slightly crushed the end of the spring to ensure a tighter fit.
I went through the rest of the COPs and found the same thing, even though they were not registering but were intermittent. Cleaned them up as well and now it runs great and I didn't need to purchase any new components
Might be worth pulling one of the easier COPs and inspecting it.
