any 302 engine?

I have a 1990 Bronco 302 5.0L engine that needs work. Looking to replace with rebuilt. I am looking around for a 302 that I can rebuild. Can any Ford 302 5.0L engine work for my Bronco? can HO blocks bolt right up? ARe there particular areas that I should look for on an engine (ex. water pump, thermostat, case number, etc..). I don't know if I even have rollers lifters? Anyway of knowing? Thanks an advance...

if you take the intake off to see the lifter valley and there is not something that is bolted to the block and holding the lifters down then that is not a roller engine. otherwise any 5.0 will bolt in as well as a 351

look in the lifter valley for the 'XXX' casting. It will have everything you need.

One thing to keep an eye out for is the tapped hole for the knock sensor. All the blocks will bolt in, but not all of them will have a place for the knock sensor.

ok. In the valley, if the lifters slide out easily without being bolted down. This is a roller lifter...YES?
Also, QUAD....what am i looking for "XXX" some **** in the valley by the 405 frwy...HEHE (BOB's Classy Lady) are those three unique numbers and letters? Any web page I can refer them too? Thanks for the 101!!

Do the older pre '80's engine have the knock sensor or vice-versa? sorry, I don't know where the knock sensor is or what it looks like, yet?

I don't know which engines have the hole for it, but it should be all the way in the back, behind the intake manifold, and just above where the transmission mounts.

not sure I understand the question...but the 'triple X' casting has the tall lifter bores for rollers and has the holes for the spider bolts (the spider is the odd shaped piece of metal that holds the dog bones which holds the lifters)

I think since 86 or 87 all the 5.0 blocks are cast for rollers, even if the engine in question didnt use them.

The 351s never had knock sensors, didn't need them. And any 302 will work, we put an '86 302 from a crown vic in an 88 or 89 truck, that thing would scream.

granted the 351 is 8.8:1 stock vs 9.2:1 for the 5.0, but my diagrams for the 5.8 EECIV show a KS....

no if the lifter is being held straight by a wierd looking bracket then that is a roller block. and my 90 model 5.0 was not a roller block. it did not have the holes drilled to hold the spider bar.

Cool...I have a lead on a '89 crown vic 302. When u say any 302 would work. Then i can slap the intake, phleum, exhaust, and don't need to modify anything even the oil pan. my oil pan has two bulge on the bottom. One small in front and big from the back end of the oil pan. Thanks for the information.
