im looking into getting the diablo chip and wanted to know why
would i need a stage 3 chip. would i want the truck to run on its
best all the time, inturn having me get a stage one chip. i just wanted a point of view.
This is probably been answered here, or in the chip thread already, but here goes:
You only really need a 2 stage if you are looking for different applications. tune 1 is stock, and tune 2 is your towing tune, or drag strip tune. Same thing goes for the 3 stage. Tune 1 is stock, then 2 is your aggressive tune, and 3 is a tune for race fuel at the strip.
If you have certain mods, like headers, MAF, TB, SC, TC, you need custom programming, which, obviously, is more expensive. Check out motorhaven, they explain it very well
Get the 2 stage chip man. That's what I have, and I have the stock tune, the performance tune, and an open tune if I ever get headers or NOS or something like that. Very nice!
Dont get the wrong idea about the stage 3. Headers arent something that requires its own tune. They cause your chip to be re-burned. You wouldnt want your performance tune to not recognize headers. It wouldnt be beneficial to you at all. 3 stage is mostly for NOS or race fuel tunes, something you wouldnt necassarily use all the time. Or, something you would use all the time, like having an 87 octane tune.
All those other mods that require a new chip are just that, the whole chip. Not a single tune to recognize it.
