disc conversion/front end swap

I pretty sure you can use the disc brake system from a 78 f100/150, but what benefits are there to swapping the whole front axle? The guy who is selling me the brake components wants me to do it that way because it is easier. Is this so? The 78 has the spindles, rotors, master cylinder, booster, lines but no proportioning valve. It looks ok.

If anyone has info I'd be grateful.

disc conversion/front end swap

Sorry the site won't let me edit my question. The truck I will be swapping the 78 f100/150 brakes to will be a 70 f100.Also could I use the power steering from this 78 as well. Both trucks are 2wd. thanks

Hey Staples76

Welcome to the board. I havent done the disc conversion on my truck yet but have researched it and all info i have heard says that if you dont do the whole front end you have to deal with the king pins which is supposed to be a pita to replace such as heating with a torch to get them out and machining for the new bushing to get the new ones in. If the front end is in good shape just do the whole front end . but you will need the proportioning valve for the disc brakes or it will not work right. As for the power steering I think all of it is a direct bolt on in place of what you have. just get the gear box pitman arm (I think) and cooling lines if available along with the pump for core and brackets and you are all set. I hope this helps. If you have any more quesitons just ask and i will check back if someone hasnt beat me to it. Again hope this was what you needed.

If you go with the power steering upgrade the steering column will also need to be swapped. The power steering sector is a couple of inches longer than the manual. Also don't forget the pitman arm and nut.
