I'm just looking for info.
I'm thinking about removing the muffler on my
'02 F-250 C.C. V-10 and replacing it w/ a piece
of aluminized straight pipe.
-couple questions-
1. how's it sound? uncontrolably loud?
2. of course there will be back pressure
relief, is a increase in performance
realized?
3. thoughts on the overall concept of having
louder than stock single pipe exhaust vs. duals
anyone done this mod? hope i'm not asking too much. TIA!!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Jul-02 AT 03:05 PM (EST)]The V10 is a different sounding engine and its hard to get it to sound really good. I think alot of people think that running the V10 without a muffler is going to be extreamly loud because they are used to the V8 engines, but its not all that loud with the V10. I have a straight pipe on mine (you can kind of see it in my gallery under misc. pics second row, middle pic). I have it set up where it ends where my spare used to be under the truck. I also have a 3" pipe with a 3.5" chrome tip. I really like the sound of the straight pipe setup, but there have been others who have done it and hate it. It can get pretty loud when you really get on the gas, but when driving normally, its not bad at all and when crusing, you really can't hear anything so it leaves the cab peaceful. I have heard that duals on the V10 don't sound good, but I've never heard them so personally I'm not sure. I did notice a little better throtle response after the mod and I think that the stock cat (with how big it is) leaves enough back pressure for the engine without the muffler.
I've had my cat off for testing.. hehe.. and let me tell you it is LOUD. Of course I had the Borla cat-back on. The cat it's self is monoleth(sp) in design. You can see light through it. I bet it's not as restrictive as people think.
