I own a 1999 F250 V10 (auto). Just yesterday the ABS light came on, i checked acouple of fuses under the dash and also under the hood. None of them seem to be blown. I also noticed that its starting to shift hard into 2nd gear(fluid is not low). The fuses that i checked under the dash are numbers 14,25 and i looked at acouple other numbers that i cant remember. Under the hood i looked at also 14, 25. Is there a different fuse that i'm missing somewhere? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Sounds like your speed sensor is bad or the wiring leading to it.
Your speed sensor is vital to your anti-lock brakes as well as your tranny; without knowing speed, your truck doesn't know when and how to shift and cannot activate your ABS(it won't know when it's locked up.)
I had the same problem on my 2000 F250 4X4 crew cab, but at separate times. The ABS light was a sensor on top of the front diff that had crapped out, cost me $280 Canadian to fix. About 2 weeks ago the truck would not shift from first up without releasing the gas, then with a lurch, would go. Local dealer recommended a new tranny at $4700 so I brought it to AAMCO who found a solinoid error, shift error between 1st & 2nd. He test drove it and could shift manually. Turned out to be a frayed wire on the fender wall ( engine side ), cost $300.00 ( all diagnostc time ). Anyways, the AAMCO guy said with the plastic guard that they put around the wire harness, dirt builds up ( I use my truck for industrial forestry ) and eventually will cause one or more wires to fail. I went back to the Ford dealer and I had a good chat with the mechanic & service manager. Seems when the Ford guy test drove it, he thought it was going from 1st to 4th which put him on a different path ( rebuild ) . Trucks got 295,000 KM on it , still tight and for the most part runs really well
Forgot to add when I had problems with the tranny, the overdrive light would flash on and off ( didn't matter if it was turned off or not ) and the engine emmissions light would go on
Baja Daze i just wanted to clarify on what you said. You are saying that the speed sensor is located above the rear diff. ? Is it easy to see change? Thanks for your help.

The sensor is on top of the rear diff. just unscrew it, unplug it, plug the new one in and put the screw back in, that easy. I had the same prob w/ my 99 psd. The speedometor kept jumping up and down, my ABS light was on and it would shift into overdrive. the part is only $14 if i remember corectly.
