I bought a rebuilt engine from a fella. He said it was a 302 out of an '82 F250. After talking to a few others, they stated there was not a 302 offered for that model and to be careful it is not a 255. I wasn't even aware there was such a thing as a 255. Anyways it is rebuilt, but I really need to know what it is. I was able to scratch the paint off the valve covers to reveal the numbers. Can anyone decipher this and let me know what I have? I have searched the web, but couldn't find too much concerning the 255. If it is indeed a 255, what can be interchanged with the 302 and 289. I wanted to put an edelbrock carb and intake on it and ordered them, but that is before I realized it may not be as advertised. The edelbrock site said the part I ordered will not fit a 255. I would appreciate any help you could provide.
On the block I was able to make out these numbers 3E27 by itself and D3C with ZOAE near it. The ZOAE is truly a guess because it was pretty much obliterated.
Also the transmission has 17 bolts which leads me to believe it is a C6. I am hoping they wouldn't marry up a C6 with a 255.
The intake has the 289/302 bolt pattern. From what I have read on the internet the 255 has a different porting system. I am going to pull the intake and place the an edelbrock with some clay between some wax paper to see if they marry up.
