overheating

My 93 f-250 started overheating today. It is about 15 degrees out and when I first started out I had some heat which I think was due to it being plugged in. After I had stopped for an hour or so I ran about 3 miles and it started to overheat and I had no heat at all, it felt as if I were just piping air in from the outside. I can feel water flow through the upper radiatior hose, it's not hard just firm, which I think is ok. Could my thermostat have gone bad?? Or could it be the water pump...???

Did you check your rad level?Low rad would cause that.Stuck t-stat would cause it and a bad pump would too.Usually when its the pump it will have a leak from the weep hole under the bottom of it.I would 1st check the rad level, then look at the tstat, provided there is no coolant dripping from the pump.If you replace the tstat get one from ford or ih,dont go with an aftermarket one.
