My first FTE rant

O.K. I have a full time job, maintenance mechanic at a local high school and I also have a small general contracting / home remodeling business which is doing very well right now. I'm up to 3 employees now. I work alot so my wife can stay home and be with our daughter. So, I'm at Home Depot and I'm loading a pile of lumber and other items into the bed of my truck and the cart slides under my tailgate, no big deal it can't hurt anything right? Wrong! along comes one of the "Lot Technicians" and he grabs the cart and yanks it out putting a big gouge in the paint and breaking the handle clean off. So I called him a few names and went inside to speak with the manager. While talking to the manager he took at least 6 phone calls He finally proceeds to tell me that they are not responsible and that this type of incident falls under the same category as you are responsible for securing your own load. Now I really steamed and I tell him that I didn't ask for the jerks help that he just walked up and yanked the cart out. Finally the manager of the Pro desk comes over and recognizes me pulls the manager to the side. They come back and all of a sudden there is no problem blah blah blah! What can we do to resolve this situation. ( I spent 135k last year at this store) He wanted to give me a Dewalt 18v drill kit. I told him to pay for my repairs and I would be happy. The thing that really makes me mad is what if I wasn't a good customer? Just some poor guy going there to pick up a few things, I would be screwed.

Thanks for listening.

Michael....

Hopefully it will get resolved. Just keep working your way up the chain of command, and you'll get the repairs paid for.

as someone in the same boat as you literally ( i live in NJ and am a self employed contractor) i gave up on Home depot. I find it worth it to go to the local guy who charges more and gives you good service than the monolith that hires idiots.
Both Home Depot and Lowes have gotten so big they have forgotten the customer.
I would also add that despite whatever signs they have on their property they ARE responsible for any damages that occur on their property and they would lose if sued. if they lease the property and dont own it someone does have insurance to repair it.trust me i did insurance investigations for ten years prior to going into bigger and better adventures

Legally they are not responsible - until an agent of theirs manipulates the cart and causes the damage. I think you have a sound case and should be fully reimbursed - large account or not.

Your right on this one.It shouldn't matter if a person spends a $100 or $1000.When the employee took control of that cart,I believe he became liable for any damages he caused.good luck.

I love HOME DEPOT ! and not just because i am a Tony Stewart fan either.
The people i hate are Lowes !
Bunch of ignorent losers at our store

I had just finshed buying 9,000+ of new cabints and applinacis for our kitchen, and i also bought a 33¢ light switch cover for the garage, after we had loaded the cabints and stuff into the moving van i borrowed from a friends business for the weekend, being it was friday night and we were not going to start installing into the kitchen until noon tommorow i was going to leave everything in the van overnight except the light switch cover which i planned on installing when i got home, so i put it into my shirt pocket. Once we got outside and got ready to leave, i decided i might as well get the socket too and switch out everything, nothing like having a new switch. plus it would allow me more time to tinker in the garage. I told my friend since i had my 4 wheeler there as well to go ahead and head for the house i would meet him there. I walk back into lowes, go to go get a switch, i had gotten an odd color so i wanted to make sure the color matched the face plate i bought earlier so i took it out and got the right color and put it back in my pocket, after i paid for the new switch from the same lady i paid for the 9000 dollars for, i walked outside and was confronted by a pimply faced little brat who accused me of stealing, i told him i already paid for this, he doesnt believe me , i then told him to go ask the ditzy blond at the register, she doesnt even remember me, i was like it was 5 minutes ago ! and she still could not recall ever seeing me. so here comes the manager, and i explain to him i already paid for this 33 ¢ item 5 minutes ago, well he doesnt believe me either, so he says to the other one to call the cops i am going to be arrested for shoplifiting. so now i am sitting in the office under house arrest waiting for the cops, the manager ask me why i would steal such a cheap item and then goes into this long winded story about loss pervention and how people like me drive up prices and this and that, i finally say hey if you want me to pay for it again, i will just so i can get out of here, he says No we dont want your money we want you punished so you will learn. so the cops get there and ask the mangaer about it, then ask me if i stole it and i says nope and tell him i bought it, he ask if i got a receipt, and i say yes but it is in the truck on the way to my house with all the stuff i had just bought. finnaly i get my phone call so to speak and call my house 45 miles away and told shawn o bring the truck and all the paperwork back with him right away, he does, when he gets up to the office the cop takes the recipts from him and looks at then then hands them to the manager, he says, Okay you can go but dont get caught in my store again you are banned from this store. I laugh and say i didnt do nothing, he says doesnt matter he doesnt want my kind around his store, no apology no i am sorry nothing, so i say okay and he ask the cop to escort me out of the building, i ask the cop to escort me back in to return an item, and he says okay, so i back up the truck to the door and unload 9000+ worth of cabints and applinices right to the return counter and get my money back. see what i mean about idiots

I wish you would have called North Wilkesboro, NC where the home office is located and told them about your situation. Betcha that manager would have been without a job after that ******* move on his part.

well i spent 3 times that at home depot since then, that was my first house a long time ago. i dont know what the manager said, he did come to the counter while i was there, he had to insert his key in the register to allow such a large return, then he walked away didnt say a word to me. i was glad though i didnt have to special order the stuff we bought, then i would to have paid a restock fee. the cop even laughed about it when i got my check back because at first i asked for cash lol it was worth it waiting an extra week to finish the kitchen because i had to special order the cabints from home depot, and i ended up saving almost 600 bucks
