Tow Package Port

How Can I tell if my vehicle is equipped with a tow package port? And if it is live?

I have a 99 Explorer Sport, W/O the towing package.

Thanks in advance, Jerry

W/O towing package it may not be prewired to a trailer plug. If it is, the plug will be visible on the back bumper or the hitch, if it has one. If you have the plug, you can check it's function by putting on a turn signal and testing the individual pins with a multi-meter or a 12v test bulb.

My truck did have this connector. I went to a Ford dealer and picked up the cable that goes from that to the trailer. $40.00, but it was worth the ease in my opinion.

Other than the wiring, doesn't a tow package consist of a different differential and alternator?
What else?
