91 EB Stalling During Warm Up

Hi All,

My wives 91 has recently developed a strange problem that started when the temps around here were between -8 to -14 deg in the morning and we were not getting above 15 during the day.

I start the truck and it runs fine. I then let it warm for a minute or so with out touching the gas. As soon as I touch the gas it will die. I can restart it no problem but again it dies when you touch the gas. I then turn the key off completely and then restart it and it works fine.

It has done this the last two times that I have driven it. Once in the morning when it was -2 degrees and in the evening when it was around 10 degrees out.

I have not looked at the codes (two dam cold out) I am thinking that it may be something with the TPS. Or maybe it is something in the AFM or the sensor that detects the temp of the air coming in to the motor. Maybe the AFM iced up due to the cold.

Anyone ever had this problem?

Anyone got any idea's?

Respectfully,

Dean

Take 2 minutes & pull the KOEO codes. Since it's intermitant you might find somehing of interest in the "continuous memory codes" Have you checked ignition timing when it's bogging?

OOPs, wrong thread. Tried to delete the above answer, but no luck. Dean, theres only a couple of sensors in the picture on a cold start. I would think a bad coolant temp sensor would lean it out & cause a no start, but it couldnt hurt to remove the connector from the CTS & see what happens since it does sound like it's too lean.

I agree.

Just to clarify it starts fine. Iit is when I try to give it gas it stalls. If I restart it with out turning the key off it will do the same thing.

I then turn off the ignishen compleetly and upon restarting it starts and drives fine.

Thanks!!!!!

When my Ranger was stalling & pinging just above an idle I could clear it up & drive normally by stomping on the throttle, but it was not intermitant. Pulled a TPS code & tested TPS output voltage which was all over the place as I advanced the throttle, but smoothed out as I got past the worn spot. If you floor it does it still die? Hopefully the weather will warm up & you can get some codes. Or maybe one of the other guys will have some ideas.
