I AM TRYING TO WIRE THE TRUCK FOR A UTILITY TRAILER . I
PURCHASED A DAPTER THAT PLUGS INTO THE WIRING HARNESS
AT THE REAR THAT HOOKS INTO THE TAIL LIGHTS ETC. EVERTHING PLUGGED IN LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO DO. I NOW HAVE NO PARKING LIGHTS OR TAG LIGHTS ON THE REAR. I HAVE SIGNAL AND BRAKE LIGHTS. I REMOVED THE ADAPTER AND PLUGED THE WIRING BACK TOGETHER AND STILL HAVE NO TAIL LIGHTS. I HAVE CHECKED THE FUSE PANEL SEVERAL TIMES AND NONE ARE BLOWN. I AM AT A STAND STILL ON WHAT TO DO NOW. I HAVE CHECKED THE WIRES ON THE REAR WITH A TEST LIGHT AND DON'T SEEM TO BE GETTING POWER BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IF THE BRAKE AND SIGNAL LIGHTS WORK THAT I WOULD HAVE TAIL LIGHTS. I AM OPEN TO ANY SUGGESTIONS.
Does your front park lights work? The wiring diagram shows one brown wire from to front and one to rear park lights from headlight switch. Because the problem came after unplugging the connector for the adapter test brown wire behind the connection and move toward the firewall. Sometimes disturbing the factory plugs can cause gremlins I hope this helps
well it seems that the problem is taken care of it self well not really i went to the salvage yard and got another connector and redone it and behold it worked. Now the wires on the trailer lights have faded to were you cannot tell the colors of each wire. I have hooked them up in so many ways that you could only wonder. I have done good i thought till i push the brake and the tailights went out. I know this can't possibly be that hard to figure out . I bet my grandson could figure it out if onlyhe were old enough to drive that will be awhile since he is only 3. Any
answer's
check the grounds on all the trailer lights std trailer wiring brown tail running, green right side turn/brake,and yellow left side turn brake white ground test the trailer with either a battery charger or a battery and check each circuit individually
i went ahead and changed the brake lights and went back to a two wire in hopes this would work.. i have a 4 wire system that
is a 3 wire plus the white coming from the truck to the trailer. From the trailer is also 3 wire plus the white. 2 wires go to the left side of the trailer brown &yellow. 1wire to the right side of
the trailer green wire. the white wire I have grounded to the trailer frame. Should there not be 2 wires on each side?
