last night i filled up my tank and stopped by a freinds house to p/u some tractor weights before i went onto the truck pull. i got about 1500 Ibs. all together. could definetly tell i had some additional wieght but it was takin it really well. well i drove 25 miles to the pull and then half way home i noticed that my fuel guage said that i was at 3/5 of a tank of gas! i thought that since i had all of that weight that i was just getting terrible gas mileage. anyhow this morning when i went to town(weights still in truck) it said i was just a scosh under a full tank of fuel like it would normally read with 55 miles after a fill up. well on my way home from town the guage went back to reading the 3/5 tank again. so now im thinkin i have a flaky guage er sender er somethin. any ideas? sorry bout the long post and thanks fer any help.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Jul-02 AT 04:01 PM (EST)]My V10 has often dropped below 3/4 and then returned to full or just below when I start it back up. Once mine gets below 1/2 it seems to steady out.
The fuel guages are definately flaky. Mine will wander enough to drive me nuts. It differs from highway to around town and all areas inbetweem. Guess I learned to live with it. Seems like one of those things an engineer could've solved by now. An accurate gas guage, what a crazy idea.
My guage goes up and down 1/8 when between full and half a tank.I fill it up every week so I really can't say what happens below a half tank.I wonder if there is a Ford service bulletin for this or a fix in the works ?
Because of the relatively "long" tank, I've found that incline/decline can have a significant effect on fuel level readings. Even the low slope of my driveway can cause as much as 1/4 tank change on the guage.

I agree with NoMo. I also notice at least a 1/4 tank variance with my driveway slope.
I've noticed some weird movement too. Mine has always went through the top half faster than the bottom. The other day I had about 3/4 of a tank then after I drove it a while it was just under the full mark. But then after I shut it off and started again it was back to normal. Yesterday I was down around 1/4 then it moved up to just under the half mark. It is kind of annoying. I usually fill up a little under a quarter tank though, just so I don't run out. I've only had the fuel light come on twice, once it only took about 17 gallons to fill up and the other time it took about 24. If anybody finds a fix let us know. Thanks :-)
WHEW!!!! I thought it was just me that thinks that the V10 gas gauge sometimes lies ...I fill it up until the pump won't pump anymore..and drive normally (faily heavy foot)...with each tank of
gas the gauge acts differently. I just completed 1000 miles..and I realize that mileage will vary for awhile..but the gauge really doesn't make sense. I figure that worst case scenerio I will get 10 miles to the gallon(no hauling), so I should expect at least 380 miles per tank..yet as I watch the gauge and check the mileage, sometimes it just doesn't look like I will get close to 380..yet when I fill up, the actual gallons that the tank takes does make sense. I guess to be safe I will just make sure to fill up when the gauge sez 1/4..regardless of the actual mileage on that tank of gas..
