whats in the water in texas????? that fish must have been sick or the guy would have never been able to catch it. You would think that would snap your pole and line if it was healthy.
That cat sure doesn't look to be 121lbs...more like 60-70lbs. Maybe that's just my jealousy distorting my vision The Va state catfish record was caught out of the Occoquan Reservior, just behind my folks house. I guess I know where I'll be shortly. I wish I could hold a rod and reel in 12 degree temperatures!!!

There's a simple explanation as to how he caught it.
"Get the Dynamite Cletus, there's a bigun in thar!!!!"
If you do some reading on the early exploration/settlement of the mississippi river area there are tales of 200+ pound cats being pulled from there during the 1800's.
Catfish get HUGE!! When they did some work on the near-by dam, the diving team requested Shark cages before they would enter the water. The divers later said that the Cat's would easily out-weigh a VW Beatle. Believe it or not...my Mom is an EMT and had to stand-by just in case...
My family (previous generation) grew up poor... so poor that they would hunt for supper- literally. If they didn't shoot something, they didn't eat. Anyway, based on this background, they don't always play (or fish) by the rules set forth by the government.
Having said this, I can honestly say that I've seen bigger catfish. Although, I can't say how they were caught. Still, the topic fish is a VERY nice catch!
