Interior stuff...

Well I have been saving up money for some time to do work on my '92.

I want to replace most of the plastic molding on the inside and I really want to find a leak somewhere in the truck that is allowing water in and making it sit in the back part of the truck under the carpet.

Has anyone done any leak checking? What's the best way?

Is replacing the plastic molding expensive, hard, etc?

Just a thought, do you have cracks right above the top rear of either door?

Mine had cracks in this area and allowed water to leak down the side panels. It caused wet carpet under the seat belt mechanism.

To correct the problem, I used regular clear silicone in all the little spider cracks.

Hope this helps.

This may sound off the wall but I would Try removing The interior mouldings around your hard top and have someone hose it down while you check for leaks on the inside around all the rubber seals. If your lucky you will see a leak path where the dirt has been washed away.

Oh by the way most of the plastic moldidings are held on with plastic push clips or metal clips. Real easy to take off. Body supply stores sell special pliers to remove the clips without damaging the moldings. Cost about $7.00. Are moldings expensive. Yes. I've replaced pieces in my 93. $60 here, $70 there. It adds up in a hurry.

Where exactly are you getting the water at? By the tailgate, backseat?

It is sitting right in the rear near the tailgate on the driver side.

Mine leaks right in the same area... I never thought of this beforehand, but when I took all my interior out a few weeks back, getting new carpet, weatherstriping, etc. I noticed when im driving in the rain, water from the rear tires splashes up into the tailgate somehow (maybe through the rust ) and then leaks through the access panel on the inside of the gate. Just another area to check.
