Can I replace the transmission drain plug with the sending unit for the transmission temp gauge. Originally, I was going to put a remote filter using the cooling lines but I think I want to know the temperature at the transmission instead of the line. My Autometer gauge came with adapter and am just wondering if I can put the sensor in there.
I checked out autometers website (there printed instructions stink!)but I, being a computer idiot, used Word to open a pdf file and its jsut jibberish and I dont know how to change that so I cant use their on line install help.
I plan on doing this tomorrow so any quick help would be tremendously appreciated....
There is a plug just above the transmission pan on the drivers side that you can remove and the sensor will thread right in. See the install instructions at the Diesel Injection Service.
I followed these instructions, and it was a piece of cake. Good luck!

Thanks gunner... I have one more question, do we use the same transmission, I have a 5.4 and an E code ( I guess E4OD). Id rather use that side port than the drain plug but unsure if we use the same tranny....
To close out this thread, I took the plug on the side of the transmission and replaced it with the sending unit. I ran the wiring along the transmission wire harness and connected it up. Total time it took to put in and wire... 10 minutes....
THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED.... I have gotten nothing but compliments from everyone who has seen my A-Pillar guage set up... I'll post pictures of it when I get a chance.
