Silly ? - Radiator Drain

This will probably make me a freshman user for a very long time but is the stock radiator drain valve closed when in or out? :-)

Now I know why all the water ran out this morning. LOL!!!!!

I couldn't get anything to come out of it over the weekend when I wanted to change the thermostat, had to pull the lower hose to drain the block and radiator down.

Guess whatever was blocking it is out of the way now huh? hahahahahah

All,
I imagine that 15lbs. of pressure at 200F would clear your petcock for you, just fine.
Hope you didn't damage anything.

PS Did you know that Ethylene Glycol (antifreeze) is extremely poisonous? Never pour antifreeze on the ground or leave it where an animal could get to it. Dipose of your antifreeze at the toxic dump point of your local landfill.

it is not necessary to drain the block to R+R a thermostat. there is a very small amount that will come out when pulling the thermostat housing.

I usually use a little hose and a milk jug to drain about a gallon out of the petcock to save a mess and put it back in afterward.

We live and we learn! Except for the chevy guys!

uh ............. there was quite a bit came out from there. First came the top off from the radiator and then there was some back flow from the block/manifold once I broke the old thermo loose. Doubtful it was a gallon but i was a good mess to clean up. Even more so since I also had the valve covers off for new gaskets and paint. Was a trip keeping up with the overflow to keep it out of the pass side valves.

It's enough I'll drainabout a gallon from it first next time as well.

Dave,
You've got a lot going for you;
1. You own a Ford truck.
2. You live in Charlotte (great town).
3. Your name is Dave.
If you hate cats, I'm afraid you are banned from this and all other social websites and events, in general, until you can get your anger managment under control. Your life is probably much like your radiator; gummed up with a bunch of junk. I recommend that you get with a good psychiatrist and get your attitude a good boil and brush.
Good Luck,
KingFisher

I just love it, dfisher. Poor cats, it's not their fault they are smarter than dogs. (and most humans I know )

Whoops

Sounds like you have a naturally heated blanket there. Gotta be tough in the summer, just one cat makes too much.

Dc,
I clearly misread your string. It is clear that you have no true animosity for the feline genus. I will reinstate your status, for now, but any other comments directed against felines WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!!
Let this be a warning to all Chevy owner.
Kingfisher
PS Everybody knows Ford Truck owners are not only lovers of Ford Trucks, but the earth and its creatures as well. Sorry this got soooo corny!
