battery drain

Hello me brothers...
I've got a discharge problem (get yer chin on the curb)...the alternator checked out good, it's a new battery , but as she runs-the altmeter shows slight discharge, then when you park her it will drain over night. It's a scratch total rewire job. How can I trace the bugger down? It's a pain...

Take off the battery negative cable. Connect a 12 volt test lamp between the cable end and the battery negative. It should light if you have a drain. Now start pulling out fuses one at a time and see if the light goes out. Then find the problem in the circuit causing the drain.

Check the cigarette lighter element and and case. If this is not the problem remove the negative battery cable and hook up a 12v test light between the cable and battery post. Make sure everything is turnd off - dome lights, glove compartment light, etc. If the test light is lit you have a current draw somewhere. Start pulling fuses one at a time untill the light goes out and then track the draw down in the cicuit you pulled the fuse from.
I just repaired a E150 van the other day with the exact symptoms - it turned out that the lighter element was making contact in the case and caused the battery to drain.

DEWDS!!

I love it-that's one of those things that if you tell me _I GET IT!!
really cool!! Do you remember the little black discs that plug into your carbuerator and when the gas squirts out of the jets the discs disperse the gas, making greater atomization-ever seen those? I said YEAH! because I could see that they worked, put 'em in and POWER and MILEAGE resulted, had to lower the idle. You can look at it and see it works-that's what I love about the old bomber, a little logic and WHAM she breathes FIRE...Now I have this particular tidbit of knowledge and I shall snuggle it 4ever...or uh, well, you know what I mean... Wow I'm a regular whiz now, you have made me what I am...
