There was an article yesterday condemning the Atkins low carb lifestyle and making claims about it, that were not true, as usual. These are the links to the article, and the response..
I thought the guys trying so hard to loose their obesity, and going the Atkins way needed to know this.. Once again, evidence that the media really do not want to make it easy to loose weight - they distort stuff about Atkins all of the time.
The Atkins diet is effective, but I have only one objection:
All of the fast food joints that are marketing their products with the Atkins label.
Geez. If you fall for that crap you deserve to be fat.
The one thing I've noticed people doing that isn't correct is the complete elimination of carbs from their diet.
Um, fellas, your brain is powered by carbohydrates...
The response article detailed the consumption of leafy greens as a source for carbs, but alot of people think that Atkins means only eating steak and chicken.
Of course, the media grabs hold of anything that is contrary to anything popular, because it gets people's attention.

Theo, i just read some stuff today that may make u happy. Hardees is coming out with a bunless burger ..... itll be a burger wrapped in lettuce leaf instead of buns. Burger King is coming out with a bunless whopper and can substitute salad for fries and bottle water for the soft drink. Subway has already came out with the very low carb wrap. Which is very very good and only 5 net carbs. Frito Lay is coming out with low carb chips. Doritos Edge is low carb chips by frito lay with only 6 net carbs per serving. The serving size is a small bag of Doritos. Also the owner of subway, fred deluca, has bought Atkins so u should be seeing a lot more stuff from atkins at subway.
From what I heard on the news, it was more that people were misinterpreting (sp?) the diet rather than saying it was a load of garbage. Mainly it seemed like people were thinking the idea is that you can eat ANYTHING, which isn't entirely true.
Everywhere I go, I see Atkins this and Atkins that. Honestly, I'm sick of it. Whether it works or not, I don't know as I haven't tried it. This is just another example of Americans jumping on the bandwagon, and businesses are just trying to cash in on it like they do with Christmas.
Please note, I'm not trying to flame anyone here for what the believe or the way they feel, I'm just voicing my opinion.
I think I am losing weight or my belt is streching. I had to go one hole tighter. The only thing I have done is apparently eat less because of my new work schedule. I am going to track my weight, currently 175. I am 6'2".

I don't disagree with you about corporations trying to cash in, but look at it from another view. Our family owns two franchise nut, dried fruit, and candy stores. Over the past few months I have had easily over 100 customers come into my store asking for low carb items, as they are on the Atkins diet. Our parent company is responding to these requests by educating us in current products that are compatible, as well as developing new snacks that are Atkins friendly. We also get cusomers asking how our products, if any, fit into Weight Watchers.
I don't see this as jumping on the bandwagon, rather we are trying to meet our customers needs, desires, and demands. I think we call it both Capitalism, and more importantly, and simply, smart business.
If getting rid of diabetes, and pancreas disease is jumping on the bandwagon, then I am guilty of that.. If loosing well over 100 pounds in one year, and doubling my chances of getting old, is jumping on the bandwagon, I am guilty of that also.. If helping over 200 people get to loose weight they thought would die with, is jumping on the bandwagon, I am also guilty of that..
If I hadn't seen you guys discussing it on here; I never would have gotten the incentive to try it. Today is my 2 week anniversary. I've only lost 6 lbs. so far, but really starting to notice a difference in my condition. My upper body profile has changed from a b to a D.
2 weeks ago I wimped out at 10 mins. on the treadmill. The last few days I've been doing 30 mins. at 75% target heart rate.
Thanks again to all who have put positive postings on this diet.
Many of the people I've talked to who haven't done well on atkins have eaten massive amounts of noncarb foods. If you eat 5000 calories a day and only 20 of it carbs your not going to lose weight. The book say eat until you feel full. Don't eat a couple bags of jerky and a block of cheese just for a snack.
Nemo, you are very welcome, my friend. If you need any help, email me, and I will advise you as much as I can. It is no imposition - I am helping many people to get to where I am - truly happy, and fit..

If you multiply your weight by 12 and take that as calories, the Atkins references say you can loose weight at that calorie level. I agree with this, as when I was over 320 pounds, I could eat about 3000 calories, and still loose weight rapidly.. As I came down in weight, I noticed I would plateau at various places, until I reduced my calorie intake, when I would start to loose weight again.. I think it is great to be at a level where to continue loosing weight I have to eat no more than 2200 calories... That is a great feeling.
