I love my new truck, but about 3 days a month the 4x4 lights flash and it wont engage 4wd. I have seen posts on here about permanently locking the front hubs, which I am not opposed to, but before I do I want to know for sure what the problem is. How do I troubleshoot this problem? Another question, could I convert my electric T-case to manual. I would realy like a lever instead of this stupid **** to engage my 4x4. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

The problem with engaging your t-case is probably in that electronic crap that you engage it with.I don't trust those new electric t-cases,much less the old ones.Nothing like a good 'ol handle sticking up outta the floor.I wouldn't know about converting it.It could probably be done...Fella's??
I would suspect the electric shift motor myself. Try doing a search and see what others have done; there have been a handful of posts concerning this over the last few months. If you don't engage the transer case on a semi-regular basis they sometimes stick. Overall they are quite reliable.

I hate to do this but I personally disagree. I believe that the electronic transfer cases are pretty reliable. I also prefer the manual locking hubs and the manual shift transfer case but I owned a 1989 BroncoII With the auto-hubs and electronic t-case. It had over 160,000 miles on it and the transfer case and electronics worked perfectly everytrime. The hubs on the other hand I now own a 1998 Ranger with a mere 75,000 miles and the electronic T-case has never let me down. The hubs work good too. My father has a 1995 with the 2.3 5 speed and the manual 4x4 system and his will pop out of 4x4 unexpectedly. Probably misadjusted linkage, but still has its problems. Thats just my .02 cents. I would like to say though that when I get me 4x4 diesel f-250 it WILL have manual T-case and hubs.

Maybe the electronic t-cases are more reliable than I think .I don't have any experience what-so-ever with them, but I have never had a manual t-case let me down.
