Flex Pipe for Downpipe?

I was wondering if it is feasible to use exhaust flew pipe for the downpipe on a PSD? I know it's a huge pain getting the rigid pipes in! I haven't seen anyone or heard of anyone doing it, so I asumme there is a reason for it, but it is just a thought. After busting some knuckles and using every word in the book on mine, it seems that a flex pipe would go in SO much easier. I would also think it could reduce the drone that is caused by engine vibratrions being transmitted to the exhaust system. Sure the flex would need to be secured some how so it wasn't slapping against the firewall and whatnot, but that wouldn't be a big deal...

Please note that this is NOT something I am planning on attempting, but just interested in why or why not it may or may not work.

Thanks,

Matt

I wouldn't expect it to work very well. There are two places where the downpipe has to pass through some tight quarters, and flex pipe would have the ability to shift around some, so it might very well create more contact than a rigid one would.

Flex pipe leaks, after time it soots up on the seams. I wouldn't do it. My Cummins had flex pipe. About 2 weeks later that was fixed.

I just installed 4" Diamond Eye System on my 2000 4wd. You definetly need the ground clearance of a 4wd to install the 4" down pipe but after some manuvouring it went right in. Not really a big deal.

I had a harder time removing the orginal pipe from the turbo when I upgraded to 4 inch than I had installing the new 4 inch downpipe. The flex pipe would hold back exhaust temps and probably burn thru in short order.
