I need to replace both door jamb switches on my 79 F-350 sooo I went to the local NAPA and got them, took them home and they are about 3/4 of an inch to long and the door will not close.Today I called Autozone, yup got 2 of em, got there same ones I got from NAPA. Went to Advanced Auto and guess what same switch as the others.I even looked at a 79 F-250 when I was at Auotzone and it has the same switch as mine. What the heck is going on and how do I get the right switches so I can move on with my project?
I also noticed the same problem, but after I had already installed the switch on the passenger door. Shutting the door pushed the switch shaft farther into the mounting hole. I am not saying that this was the proper way to solve the problem, but it did work. The switches work on both sides without any problems.
That is the proper adjustment method You just install them and close the door. Put lots of silicone dielectric grease on them to keep them from corroding again.
