I have 99 Expedition with the 5.4 engine. When I tilt the steering wheel my blinkers start blinking faster and my tail lights do not work properly. As long as I leave the steering wheel in the upper most position everything works properly.
Any ideas?
Could be the "multi-function" (turn signal, wiper, etc) switch acting up. They're notorious for going bad....may have even been a recall item. Call your service manager and ask.
I had my multi-switch changed in the recall a couple years ago... Now, about 1 time out of 10, when I lower my drivers window, the wipers go on... I love my 99 expy, but sometimes it weirds me out with strange goings on... Now it is developing a miss... And it won't start in real cold weather, 0º or below, unless I goose the gas pedal a little... And it backfires (pops) when cold and pushed to accelerate... I figure it is all related to the same problem... Electrical and moisture... I read another post here about the coilpacks going bad on 4.3's but have not changed them yet...
wolvesfan: The starting issue is most likely the result of a bad Idle Air Control solenoid, a.k.a. "IAC". Do a search on IAC in the Expedition and Navigator section of this forum.
IAAGGIE: Could be the switch, or the wires running up the steering column to the switch. The fact that the situation is affected by the position of the tilt system argues for broken/shorted wiring.
I'd look for broken or cut wiring in either of the two stalks on the steering column. Since it affects the turn signals, I'd check out the multi function stalk on the left side first. I've had both stalks replaced due to shorting.
