I have a 1960 3/4 ton 4x4 and the owners prior "modified" and put in a 3spd overdrive tranny and 390 from a Mercury. It looks like they welded the tranny cross member to the frame. I am looking for a 4 speed stock and was wondering about engine/transmission mounts. From what I can tell from the shop manual there were the front engine mounts by the radiator support and then the back mounts on the crossmember by the firewall. Did the transmission have a seperate crossmember behind this? I can't find any information if it does. Thanks to all who have answered my questions from before. -
There is the front cross member with the front motor mounts that you mentioned. The very next crossmember is the one that the bell housing is bolted to. There is no other cross member after that until you reach the two cross members that are close together which the transfer case bolts up to.
The '59-'60 4x4 trucks came factory with both 3 speed, and 4 speed trannys.
If you want to retain the stock motor mounts all you need is a bellhousing from a 61-66 352V8. It has the ears to bolt directly to your crossmember and is the same bolt pattern as the 360/390/428. The last time I bought one(3 yrs ago) it cost $45.00. Hope this helps.
