Please...need help on this one...my wife's '89 Aerostar will not shift into drive or rarely into rev when the van first starts up. After warming, the tranny seems to shift fine and all day afterwards. The trans fluid is a little over full and I was wondering IF this is the problem or it is something else? Wondering if someone else had a similar problem like this. It takes about 5-10 minutes for the problem to go away and sometimes it is sluggish in the driveway until I shift from drive to reverse a few times and then it is ok for the day.
I have a similar problem whenever it is cold and the transmission fluid gets a bit low. Are you sure the transmission is a bit over full? Did you check with the engine hot and running in park?
yep...my brother -in-law and I put front and rear seals in the tranny a couple of months ago and he evidently over-filled it. Looks like a half to three-fourths of an inch on the dipstick...
When you and your brother-in-law replaced the front and rear seals, did you also replace the transmission filter? You might want to check the vacuum line to the modulator.
