Can somebody tell me what the two small 3/4" holes on the side of the air box are for? I have a K&N drop-in filter and have already noticed two real dirty areas on it. I've noticed it also on the stock filter. Found out it was coming from the two openings in the air box which is pulling in dirt from the engine compartment. I know there's a small drain hole below for water, but these are on the left side of the box.

I once suspected that they were for water drainage. Or course, with the stock set-up I have no idea how you could possible get water in there unless you submerged the truck. Then having the holes would be just plain silly becuase of the other problems that would exist.
Just cover the holes with tape or something.
