My brothers bronco has a light under his hood that is on a coil spring that u pull out the light and its on a cord and will magneticly stick to the hood and when u are done u pull light off the hood and the cord coils back into the box. is this standerd for broncos? i want to go to a junk yard and pull one of for my car if it is.
thanks
Not standard but an option on Broncos and F series trucks. Mostly found on the ones with XLT Lariat trim (IE nice cloth seats, power windows, etc). Good luck finding one that works right. Many are "sticky". You can pull the light out but is doesn't want to reel itself back in. Easily checked before you buy one.
I've also seen the exact same ones under the hoods of 80's Jeep Cherokee "Limiteds". And some fairly similar ones on Chevys that had a little hand crank instead of the spring return. The hand crank ones might be a bit more reliable, but they are a pain to wind out and back in.
Any of you know a source for a good aftermarket underhood light. My factory light is shot (not the retractable kind) and I would like to replace it with something a little more functional than a stationary 5w lamp.
At walmart/lowes/hd I've seen little round "undercabinet" lights, the ones I saw looked like little hockey pucks and just happened to be 12v halogen lights (they plug in the wall, but they have a tranformer that puts out 12v dc, so cut the cord and wire the individual bulb unit into the existing underhood wiring), that would make a very bright underhood light.
