Hi all, thanks in advance for being patient with a newbie. I'm looking at a 250 super duty, v-10, extended cab, short bed which I'm going to buy for hauling a 2 horse trailer (will also be my every day truck). I've looked and the Ford site says all 2001's come with a tow package. What exactly does this mean? I'm not certain if it comes with a class III or IV hitch, and I don't see any signs of trailer brakes in the cab, but I'm only used to seeing the old add ons, do they come standard? Does it mean it's ready to go? I would like to get it in writing that it has what I need, but don't know exactly what that would be.
Well according to the Ford Truck site, they say the 2001 Super Duty series comes standard with the towing package. I'm just curious as to what exactly that entails.
The tow package , i believe, is a tranny cooler, trailer hitch and comes pre wired for lights, brakes and battery charging. In the glove box will be a pig tail connector that plugs in under the dash for a trailer brake control (you must supply the controller)
Well, I bought the truck and it has the hitch, the cooling package, and electrical for trailer brakes, just like the poster above mentioned. Nice truck!

It doesn't.
One good thing is that other than the hitch these trucks are ready to tow.Which I think trucks always should have been. One large radiator,a high amp alternator, decent sized battery, pre wired,etc...
They probably don't include the hitch because of $$$$$ and a lot of people that tow these days use fifth wheel and gooseneck setups.
On all 2002 SD's a 10,000 lb. rated receiver hitch is standard as is all the wiring etc.
I upgraded to a 12,500 receiver at an additional charge of $150.00($128.00 invoice).
If you ckeck your Ford literature or ckeck with your stealer you'll see that the 12,500 hitch is the only option offered.
I also have the Camper Package ($136.00 invoice) which includes heavier front springs, an anti sway bar and a certification for slide in campers.
